The mission of Schuyler County R-I School District in cooperation with family and community is to foster, nurture, and prepare each student to learn to their fullest potential and become life long learners equipped to take an active, productive, self-supporting role in the betterment of society.
In April 2009 and again in the fall of 2014, the Schuyler County R-I School District was successful in the passage of “no tax increase” bond issues. Under the leadership of the district’s superintendent, the bond funds were maximized to address critical infrastructure needs and more. Roof replacements were a part of each bond project. In 2009, the elementary and middle school roofs were replaced with pressure equalization technology. This large project proved to be so successful that in 2015 the high school was re-roofed using the same system. In both cases, the new roofs incorporated thick layers of insulation to achieve much greater energy efficiency. Of special note–in one and two story buildings, the roof area represents the largest potential energy loss of the building envelope. Air barriers and well-insulated roof assemblies are essential to long-term energy efficiency.
WindSmart assisted the district’s construction managers in the replacement of each roof assembly. Through a process of detailed analysis, a variety of material options were evaluated. Recommendations, options and budgets were provided. Both projects were competitively bid and then successfully implemented during summer break.
Both projects were developed to achieve cost-effective and long-lasting roof assemblies, including:
80-Mil Thermoplastic Membrane
