The Nortek Central Distribution is an 800,000 SF warehouse distribution facility. In late 2019, a silicone coating had been planned for the facility, but after discussing with local consultants, a WindSmart System was recommended instead. WindSmart developed a design which was bid to certified applicators. The WindSmart System bid was comparable in cost to the coating system, and the owner recognized that a new membrane would offer superior protection.

The WindSmart vented roof system was installed during early summer 2020. The system utilized the WindSmart metal overlay system which included flute fill, protective board and a 60mil thermoplastic membrane. The system was installed in 13 weeks, with a crew of 8-10 on-site workers, even with significant inclement weather challenges. On large, open, metal panel roofs, the WindSmart vented roof system can be one of the most cost-effective ways to build a longer lasting membrane roof assembly. Additionally, the manager of the facility, Randy Clark, stated that once the new roof was completed, the temperature inside was 20 degrees cooler during the summer, making all the employees very satisfied with their work environment and more productive.

The new roof assembly was designed and installed to achieve:

• Added insulation to improve energy efficiency

• A more resilient solution to the buildings metal panel contraction and expansion

• Longer-lasting weather protection
