In 1965, Carlson Labs began with a single product – vitamin E. Founder Susan Carlson produced this in her small Chicago apartment and quickly grew to offer the most complete line of all-natural vitamin E supplements in the world. Today, Carlson Labs is known for pure, high quality and award-winning vitamins, minerals, fish oils, and other nutritional supplements.
In 2018 Carlson Labs knew they needed a solution to their large leaking roof assembly. With two roofs already on the building – every roofing contractors told them that complete tear off or liquid coatings were the only possible solutions. Tearing off the roofs and exposing the building to weather could be risky causing potential disrupting to their daily production. And, removing and disposing of perfectly good insulation did not reflect the environmental stewardship policy of Carlson Labs. Liquid applied roof coatings, while inexpensive, did not offer a long-term roofing solution.
Fortunately, a WindSmart Approved Applicator proposed another option. This approach allowed the building to be re-covered with a new membrane in lieu of either tear off or coatings. The WindSmart System provides a superior, long-lasting roof that is installed more quickly, with minimal fasteners through the roof deck, and with minimal disruption to daily manufacturing operations.
The WindSmart System uses a proprietary process of installing a new membrane with patented pressure equalization vents. An engineered process of controlled air exchange keeps insulation dry so materials can be recycled in place – avoiding current and future roof tear off.
The new roof assembly was designed and installed to achieve:
