ABC Building Supply was founded in Beloit, WI in 1982 and started with 3 locations. Over the years they have greatly expanded their business becoming the leading roofing material distributors in the country. As of 2020

they now have over 800 locations nationwide.

This building originally had a gabled metal panel roof that had been retrofitted with an EPDM. The EPDM had reached the end of its life and the building owner was looking for the most cost-effective single ply replacement. As a distributer of roofing materials, the owner was highly knowledgeable of the various options for reworking the roof. With the assistance of a local WindSmart Applicator, they implemented a WindSmart System recover design. Leaving the EPDM roof in place, the contractor installed an air sealed, pressure-equalized thermoplastic membrane over the EPDM. The perimeter and penetration attached the membrane and air seals to the structure of the building with purlins fasteners. The field of the roof was loose laid and secured with WindSmart patented pressure equalization vents.

The new roof assembly was designed and installed to achieve:

• Code compliance with wind uplift resistance engineered to ASCE7-16  standards.

•  Most cost-effective retrofit system because of reduced fastener and associated labor costs.

• A high level of environmental stewardship by recycling the existing roof material in place vs creating large landfill waste streams.
